About the CaptainJason Hill has been an avid angler on Powerton Lake, Clinton Lake, Lake Shelbyville, and Sangchris Lake for over 20 years. Catfishing is his passion, but he sometimes targets other species if the action is too hot to pass up. Sharing the excitement and experience with others is his top priority. Jason spends 3 to 5 days a week on the water during peak season to stay on the fish.
The main goal is to have a good time and enjoy yourself. Captain Jason will do his best to put you on as many fish as he can.
Creating an unforgettable fishing experience catching that big one is always a top priority for Jason. Watch this client's video to get an idea of what fishing with Jason is like.
Jason Hill took WAND reporters out for a fishing trip on Clinton Lake to show how power plant lakes produce nice catfish. Even on difficult days, we catch fish.

Clinton Lake is an extraordinary fishery for channel catfish. Success rates are generally very good. Catching anywhere from 10 to 20 fish a day on average, with some of the fish exceding 10lbs. The IDNR have recently began stocking the lake with blue catfish, so fishing will only get better in the future.
Lake Shelbyville is one of the largest lakes in Illinois. With huge populations of crappie, walleye, and white bass, it is one of the states top fishing destinations. Spring is when I like to target crappie. I slow troll for these fish with multiple rods and double minnow rigs in open water. May and June can be very good for walleye and then the white bass action heats up after that. When these fish are schooled up its hard to beat the fast action. And if the water level is right the channel catfishing can be incredible, with fish exceeding 20lbs.
Sangchris Lake is arguably the best flathead lake in the state. With the new state record last year it proves just that. Flathead fishing is generally slow, and takes a lot of patience, but can be good action with several big flathead and some channel cats to keep you busy. We do not land a flathead every trip but when we do, the size average is 30 to 40lbs with bigger fish landed quite often. Its generally colder during these spring/fall trips, so dress for the weather. Propane heaters and storage for extra clothing will be provided. These will be evening/night trips only.
Powerton lake is a power plant lake in Pekin, IL. The state has been stocking bluecatfish there since the late 90s. Blue cats are caught there every year, tipping the scales at 80+lbs. For your best bet at the hardest fighting fish next to salt water, you have to try it. Huge rewards come with fishing this lake.
